Fin
AI support agent that runs on top of Zendesk, Salesforce, HubSpot or Intercom and bills $0.99 per outcome. Renamed from Intercom in May 2026, now under a $3.6B Salesforce acquisition.
Overview
Intercom renamed itself Fin in May 2026 once the AI agent overtook the messaging product as the core business. The Intercom name survives as the label on the helpdesk software. A month later Salesforce signed a definitive agreement to acquire the company for about $3.6 billion, folding roughly 30,000 customers into the Agentforce portfolio. That transaction is expected to close in Salesforce's fiscal Q4 2027 and has not closed yet, which matters for anyone signing a multi-year contract now.
The engineering appeal is that Fin does not ask you to move your helpdesk. It sits on Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud, HubSpot, Freshworks, Front, Zoho, Sprinklr or Gorgias, reads your existing knowledge sources and answers across chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, phone and Slack from one configuration. Underneath it runs Apex, a support-tuned model Fin trained rather than a frontier API with a prompt on top. Procedures let the agent call your own endpoints, and that is where the actual integration work lands: auth scoping, idempotency and deciding what the agent does when your API returns a 500 mid-conversation.
Model the billing before the pilot, not after. One outcome per conversation at $0.99 reads simply until you look at what counts. A customer who reads the answer and stops replying is billable. Qualification events bill at $9.99. Fin advertises around 76 percent autonomous resolution across its base while independent tests land between 38 and 72 percent, and the gap tracks how sentiment-heavy your ticket mix is: refund arguments and billing complaints deflect far worse than structured how-do-I questions. Negotiate the dispute and refund terms into the contract.
Key Features
- ✓ Deploys on top of Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud, HubSpot, Freshworks, Front, Zoho, Sprinklr or Gorgias without migrating tickets
- ✓ Runs on Apex, a support-tuned model Fin trained itself rather than a raw frontier API
- ✓ Single agent configuration serves chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, phone and Slack
- ✓ Procedures call your own endpoints so the agent can take actions, not just retrieve answers
- ✓ Copilot mode drafts replies alongside human agents at $35 per user per month
- ✓ One billable outcome per conversation even when the agent chains several steps
Where it holds
- • Helpdesk-agnostic, so you can pilot it against production traffic without a migration project
- • Per-outcome pricing is easy to model against your current fully loaded cost per ticket
- • Published rate card in a category where most vendors publish nothing
- • Action-taking through your own APIs, which is where the real deflection gains live
Where it breaks
- • A customer who reads the answer and goes quiet counts as a billable resolved outcome, and that definition drives most billing disputes
- • Independent tests put real resolution rates between 38 and 72 percent against a 76 percent headline average
- • Lead qualification bills at $9.99, ten times a resolution, which catches finance teams out
- • The Salesforce deal has not closed, so packaging and roadmap past FY2027 are genuinely unsettled
My Take
Two things changed here in 2026 and both belong in the evaluation before the demo. Intercom renamed itself Fin in May, then Salesforce signed a definitive agreement on 15 June to buy the company for roughly $3.6 billion, closing no earlier than Salesforce's fiscal Q4 2027. The product is still the most deployable AI support agent going, mainly because it layers onto Zendesk or Freshworks or Gorgias instead of demanding a migration. Read the billing definition carefully though: a customer who goes quiet after Fin's answer is a $0.99 outcome whether or not they were actually helped.
