Overview
Runway sells three things off one model family. Runway Creative is the browser workspace where you generate and cut. Runway Dev is the API, live since 17 July 2026, fronting Gen-4.5, Aleph 2.0 and Act-Two plus outside models like Veo 3.1, Seedance 2.5 and ElevenLabs audio behind a single integration. Runway Robotics is the odd one out and the most interesting: GWM-1, the general world model announced in May 2026, used to build photorealistic simulation for policy inference. Warehouse footage in, a testable environment for a robot arm out.
Now the money. Consumer plans run $15, $35 and $95 a month, dropping to $12, $28 and $76 on annual billing, and they buy credits: 625, 2,250 and 9,500 a month respectively. Gen-4.5 costs 60 credits per 5 seconds, so the $35 Pro plan is roughly 187 seconds of flagship video. The Dev API is a separate wallet at $0.01 a credit with a $10 minimum, working out to $0.12 per second on Gen-4.5 and $0.05 on Gen-4 Turbo. None of those figures describe cost per usable second. Prompt adherence is good but not deterministic, and the honest planning number is several attempts per keeper.
Teams putting generative media inside a product should look at Runway Dev first, largely because the multi-model routing saves maintaining four vendor SDKs. Robotics and computer vision groups have a separate reason to look, though GWM-1 is new enough that the defensible position is to pilot it rather than plan a programme around it. Anyone whose real job is editing footage they already shot will hit a wall quickly: Aleph 2.0 is the correct tool and its API sits behind an Enterprise contract as of January 2026.

- • Sticker price is per generated second, not per usable second. Budget four or five attempts per keeper and a finished ten-second shot lands nearer $5 than $1.20
My Take
The interesting move in 2026 was not the video model. It was GWM-1 and the Robotics toolkit, which turn the same world model into photorealistic simulation for running policy inference, and that is a far better fit for an engineering team than another text-to-video box. Gen-4.5 remains the model to beat on motion and prompt adherence, priced at 12 credits a second on the Dev API that launched 17 July 2026, so $1.20 for ten seconds before you count retries. The catch is Aleph 2.0, arguably the best thing Runway ships: API access went Enterprise-only in January 2026.
